AK: "The Trongate Codex. It’s basically a set of photographs of other printed and photographed material as it hangs on the walls of the Val D’Oro fish and chips restaurant in Glasgow. Luigi Corvi, the owner of the shop, has decorated his shop. I’ve watched this happening since I did a show there in the mid 1990s. Back
then, Transmission invited me to do a project in Glasgow, and I went to this chips shop to do eatable sculptures from their »raw materials« – chips, fish, pickles and sausages. Back then, I went there in the morning, did twelve or so sculptures and placed them on the tables next to the salt, the vinegar and the ketchup bottles.
DB: Public sculpture!
AK: Yes. I went back to this chips shop many years later and saw all the pictures the owner had put up – personal and family history incorporated into Glasgow’s history. You could call it publishing, in the sense that it’s a book in space or an analogous blog. I photographed them, and with The Modern Institute we’ll print a book, creating an analogue of the analogue.

AK: «The Trongate Codex». Es ist eine Serie von Fotografien von gedrucktem oder fotografiertem Material, das im Val D’Oro Fish ’n’ Chips Restaurant in Glasgow hängt. Der Besitzer Luigi Corvi hat sein Restaurant damit dekoriert. Ich verfolge das, seit ich dort Mitte der 90er Jahre eine Ausstellung gemacht habe. Damals wurde ich von Transmission zu einem Projekt in Glasgow eingeladen. Ich ging in den Fritten-Laden und machte essbare Skulpturen aus ihrem «Material», Pommes Frites, Fisch, Pickels und Würstchen. Ich ging damals in der Früh hin, machte ungefähr zwölf Skulpturen und legte sie auf die Tische neben die Salzstreuer, die Essig- und Ketchup-Flaschen.
DB: Skulptur im öffentlichen Raum!
AK: Als ich Jahre später wieder herkam, sah ich all diese Bilder, die der Besitzer aufgehängt hatte, die seine persönliche mit der Geschichte Glasgows verband. Man könnte es Publizieren nennen, wie ein Buch im Raum oder ein analoger Blog. Ich habe sie fotografiert und mache mit The Modern Institute ein Buch daraus, etwas Analoges aus dem Analogen.
