With the exhibitions “Sensation” and “The Object and the Non-Objective World” Vrits opens its new spaces in Ryffstrasse 12 in Basel on the 30th of May 2008, 7pm. Swiss artist Annnette Amberg (*1978, Bern) and Polish artist Anna Ostoya (1978, Krakow) will both present new works on that occasion
Annette Amberg studied in Zurich; she lives and works there and in Basel. Her works question processes of transmission and visualisations of the non-visible by means of perceptional phenomena such as synaesthesia. In “Sensation” she will show her new film “The Player” in an installative setting. At the moment Annette Amberg is working as curatorial assistant for Kunsthalle Basel, a decision deriving from her consistent interest in the theory and representation of art also visible in her organisation of “amberg&marti” (www.amberg-marti.ch) an exhibition-project in her apartment in Zurich lasting in each case only for one Sunday.
Anna Ostoya finished her studies at Staedelschule in Frankfurt two years ago and is currently living in London as part of a residency programme. In many of her recent works she deals with “idols of art” such as Donald Judd or Kazimir Malevich and their theoretical ideas and writings. For her exhibition in Basel titled “The Object and the non-objective World” – based loosely on the book “Suprematismus – Die Gegenstandslose Welt (1927)” by Malevich about his theory of Art and the origin and the purpose of creation – she produces a painting, various silkscreen prints, as well as a new sound-work and a sculpture examining the validity of suprematist ideals in today`s reality and design vocabulary.

Vrits eröffnet einen neuen Ausstellungsraum an der Ryffstrase 12 in Basel im St.Johann-Quartier!
Mit den Ausstellungen «Sensation» und «The Object and the Non-Objective World» eröffnet Vrits am 30. Mai 2008, 19h die Räume an der neuen Adresse. Die Schweizer Künstlerin Annette Amberg (*1978, Bern) und die Polnische Künstlerin Anna Ostoya (*1978, Krakau) werden zu diesem Anlass beide neue Arbeiten präsentieren.
Annette Amberg studierte in Zürich, lebt und arbeitet dort und in Basel und befragt in ihren Arbeiten Übersetzungsprozesse und Visualisierungen von Nicht-Sichtbarem anhand von Wahrnehmungspänomenen wie der Synästhetik. In «Sensation» zeigt sie ihren neuen Film «The Player» in einem installativen Setting. Annette Amberg arbeitet zurzeit als kuratorische Assistentin an der Kunsthalle Basel, eine Entscheidung, die sich aus ihrem anhaltendem Interesse für die Theorie und Präsentation von Kunst ergab, die auch in ihrer Organisation von «amberg&marti» (www.amberg-marti.ch) deutlich wird – ein Ausstellungsprojekt in ihrer Wohnung in Zürich, das jeweils nur einen Sonntag lang, von der Eröffnung am Morgen bis zur Finissage am Abend, dauerte.
Anna Ostoya beendete vor zwei Jahren ihr Studium an der Städelschule Frankfurt und lebt und arbeitet seit 2007 im Rahmen eines Stipendiums in London. In vielen ihrer jüngsten Arbeiten hinterfragt sie Idole der Kunst wie Donald Judd oder Kazimir Malevich und deren theoretische Ideen und Schriften. In ihrer Basler Ausstellung mit dem Titel «The Object and the Non-Objective World» – lose basierend auf Malevich`s Buch «Suprematismus – Die Gegenstandslose Welt» von 1927 über seine Theorien zur Kunst, dem Ursprung und Grund der Kreativität – zeigt sie Malerei, neue Siebdrucke, eine Ton-Arbeit und Skulpturen, die die Anwendbarkeit der suprematistischen Ideale auf die heutige Zeit und ihre Formensprache untersuchen
